Analysis and action on living standards
In this section we explore wealth inequalities between different birth cohorts and generations, how this relates to home ownership, and how it reflects changes in the pensions system. We also look at how wealth patterns vary between men and women.
Net property wealth captures the gross value of owned homes and any additional properties, less any mortgage debts. We prefer to measure this at a family unit level (singles or couples, plus any dependent children) and on a per-adult basis, as this best reflects the influence of family size. The data in this section shows how the real value of net property wealth has changed since 2006-08, and how wealth compares across age groups and birth cohorts.
