Analysis and action on living standards
The health of the housing market affects – and reflects – the health of the economy as a whole. This basket of indicators contains national and regional trends in house price and rental price growth; housing sales and mortgage approvals. We also provide a timely estimate of house price growth, one month ahead of official data.
This indicator tracks the latest moves in house prices for the UK, constituent nations and regions using official Land Registry/ONS data. Changes in house prices matter not only for family living standards and home ownership rates, but also for the health of the wider economy. Using a variety of timely data, including from the UK RICS Residential Market Survey, we pick up on the very latest trends with an estimate of house price growth, one month ahead of official data. Due to the coronavirus crisis, the UK House Price Index was suspended from March, and we have chosen not to produce a house price estimate this quarter.
