Much of the post-war inequality debate has focused on the gap between rich and poor. But while income inequality recently hit a 30-year low, living standards differences between young and old have been rising up the economic and political agenda. To what extent has age replaced class as the big division in Britain today? Are pensioner incomes really growing quickly, and why doesn’t it feel like that for all pensioners? Do averages hide big inequalities within generations? And which post-war generation has experienced the highest inequality? At an event covering a key priority of the Intergenerational Commission, the Resolution Foundation presented findings from its latest report on inequalities between and within generations. A panel of experts then debated the key inequalities challenges for different generations in Britain today, before taking part in a Q&A.
