From loud claps to hard cash

A new settlement for Britain’s low-paid workers

Low-paid workers have borne the brunt of Britain’s economic crisis. Almost one in three have been furloughed or lost their jobs completely, while many of those continuing to work have risked their lives in doing so. We clap many of our low-paid workers every Thursday. But gratitude alone won’t pay the bills or ensure they know how much work they’ve got from one day to the next.

What would a new settlement for Britain’s low-paid workers looks like? How should we improve pay and conditions without jeopardising jobs? And what kind of institutions should uphold this new settlement?

The Resolution Foundation is hosting an interactive webinar to debate and answer these questions. Following a presentation of new Resolution Foundation research, leading voices from the world of work, including TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady, will debate the need for, and challenges surrounding, a new settlement for Britain’s low-paid workers. Viewers will be able to submit questions to the panel before and during the event.
